Constructed wetlands as hydrological buffers – how to create a win-win situation with biodiversity conservation

The project investigates to which extent man-made wetlands can contribute to storing (buffering) of water during extreme precipitation events, which are expected to become increasingly common due to climate change, and thereby contribute to mitigation of adverse effects in downstream regions.

The project’s main focus is on Halland county, SW Sweden, where water levels are surveyed in more than 100 constructed wetlands scattered across a mainly agricultural landscape.
